Zerby Derby
Season 2 Episode 8 - Yoo Hoo - Sandscape - Wind Chime
Zack and Lily take different paths to Zerby Town Marsh. When they get there they can’t see each other. The Zerbies can talk to each other with their radios, but they still have to find each other. Lily tries honking her horn for Zack to find her, but the noise echoes, making it hard for Zack to figure out where it’s coming from. Lily tries shaking a tree, but the only tree that’s small enough for her to shake is too small for Zack to see. Finally, they hit upon the idea of using something they can both see (an old, dead tree) to drive towards until they find each other. - Zack and Lily drive down to the beach near Zerby Town Lake for some fun playing in the soft sand. When they get there, Lily warns Zack not to stop, because he could get stuck. Zack forgets and gets stuck in the sand. Rocking back and forth only digs Zack in deeper. Lily tries to push him but she can’t figure out a way to do it without stopping herself. Lily searches for answers and comes back with a piece of bark which she puts under Zack’s wheels for traction. Zack gets out of the sand and they continue their adventures. - Chase the helicopter is having a hard time taking off from his landing pad on a very windy day on Zerby Town Ridge. Zack comes by and tries to help. They spot which way the wind is coming from by using leaves, but the wind changes direction when Chase rises into the air. They call Mika the Mechanic and she brings a leaf tail – a few leaves tied on a string – to help them see which way the wind is blowing. But the leaf tail needs to be at the right spot to help them see the wind. On the ground doesn’t work, neither does the spot on the trunk of a tree. They find it works best when it’s high-up and in the open.

Season 2
S02:E01 - Double Decker Zerby - Puddle Too Deep - Construction Zone
While moving their garages around, Zack can’t find anywhere to put his garage near Axle’s. They decide Zack’s garage should go on top of Axle’s. This creates problems when they realize finding a solution for getting in and out of the second story garage isn’t going to be easy. Zack falls out of his garage as soon as Strut puts it down. Then he can’t get back up. They call Fill the Front-Loader to build a ramp up to Zack’s garage. The ramp works perfectly, except it goes in front of Axle’s garage door and Axle can’t get out. They remove the ramp and try, try again. Axle realizes that if they turn Zack’s garage sideways then Zack can have a ramp up the side of Axle’s garage, and Axle can still get in and out. - While exploring Zerby Town Forest, Zack and Rex come across a puddle. But they can’t explore the other side of the puddle because it gets too deep for Zack. They try to come up with solutions to make the puddle shallower so Zack can cross to the other side. They try using a large piece of bark, but when Zack gets on top of it, the bark starts to float Zack around. Rex tries to add more dirt to the bottom of the puddle, but the dirt just ends up mixing with the water and going away. Finally they decide to use gravel, which doesn’t mix with the water and stays put on the bottom of the puddle. Zack gets across and he and Rex decide to fix all the other deep puddles too! - The Construction Zerbies decide to build a water trench right through the middle of town. The problem is, while they are building it, Zerbies still need to drive past. They need to come up with a way that Zerbies can get across the ditch they are digging while the construction Zerbies continue to work. They start by making a bridge out of dirt. This works great for Zerbies who want to cross the ditch, but it makes it hard for the construction Zerbies to drive back and forth. Next they try making a bridge out of logs. The idea is for the Construction Zerbies to go under the bridge, but the ditch isn’t deep enough yet for that to work. Strut picks up one end of the bridge so Fill can get to Rex and they realize the solution. A bridge where they take turns! They put it down when Zerbies need to cross, and raise it up when the Construction Zerbies need to go under.
S02:E02 - Zerby Carrier - Stuck in the Mud - Fill-a-Vator
While out for a drive, Zack, Lily, Rose and Goldie all hit the same rock and they all get flat tires. Rex brings his trailer out to carry them back to Mika’s Shop so they can get fixed, but the trailer isn’t big enough to fit 4 broken Zerbies. With a rainstorm coming in they have to figure out a way they can all get back to Zerby Town. They try getting on the trailer facing forwards, but that only fits 2 Zerbies. They try sideways, which works a little better, but still only fits 3 of the 4. They try piling on but they just end up falling off when Rex starts to move. Even using sticks to make the trailer bigger doesn’t work. Finally, Zack gets the idea that if everyone give him their broken tires and he gives the others his working ones, then he can ride the trailer with 4 broken tires and the others can drive home. - Chase the helicopter shows Zack the muddiest place in Zerby Town Forest, a perfect place to have ‘mudfest’! But when Zack gets stuck in the mud, Chase is unable to pull him out. They call Strut the crane but Zack ends up too far out in the mud for Strut to reach him. Only together can Chase and Strut get Strut’s hook out to Zack so he can be towed out. - Zack and Lily are exploring Zerby Town forest when they come across a rock that’s a little too high to get up on. With Strut the crane busy, Fill the front loader comes by to help. Fill can lift Zack and Lily in his scoop to the top of the rock, but when he tries he finds out that Zerbies are heavier than a scoopful of dirt, and he can’t keep his balance. At first, Lily balances on the back of Fill to weigh him down so he can lift Zack. But when Zack gets to the top of the rock and its Lily’s turn to ride in the scoop, there’s no one to balance on the back of Fill. Before long the Zerbies realize they can use a rock on Fill’s back to help him keep his balance while he lifts Lily.
S02:E03 - Between a Rock and a Wet Place - Strut Gets Stuck - Main Street
Zack and Rex are exploring a trail near Zerby Town Lake when Zack falls down a steep hill and lands on a small beach. The hill is too steep to climb up and the beach is blocked at both ends, preventing Zack from being able to get back. Zack and Rex try, try again to figure out a way to get Zack off the beach. Rex gets a rope and tries to pull Zack up, but Zack keeps getting caught and Rex can’t pull him. While Rex is off looking for answers, Fran the Ferry comes by and asks Zack what he’s up to. That’s when Zack realizes that he can get off the beach by riding on the water – on Fran! - Strut his happily digging a hole around himself when he realizes that he’s dug down too deep to get back out. Zack, Rex and the other construction Zerbies try, try again to help Strut get out of the hole, but the problem is, when a Zerby needs lifting up, it’s usually Strut who they call. What do they do when it’s Strut that needs the lift? First, Fill the Front Loader tries pouring dirt down into the hole so Strut can make a ramp, but there isn’t enough room for Strut to get out of the way and the dirt ends up on his roof. Next, Sandy the bulldozer tries to pull Strut out, but she can only pull him sideways against the edge of the hole. Finally, Zack notices a tree branch above Strut. Throwing his hook over the branch, Strut is able to pull himself up and out of the hole. - Zack, Axle and some other Zerbies decide they all want their own long driveways and roads. But when the roads start crossing over each other and getting confusing they try, try again to come up with a better way to organize the town. Their first solution is to put everyone’s garage far enough away so that no one’s road goes over anyone elses. But the Zerbies end up so far away from each other that they decide there must be another way. Zack and Axle realize that if everyone shares a main street then they can each have their own short road – their driveway – and a big shared road – Main Street.
S02:E04 - Splash From the Fast - Depth Thoughts - Disappearing Leaf Pile
After getting hot while playing in the sun, Zack and Rex decide to make a puddle they can splash through to cool off. They try putting water on the ground, but it just runs away. They call Fill the front loader to help them dig a pit to put the water in, but the water dries out in the sun. Zack realizes that they need to make the puddle in the shade so the water won’t dry out as fast. - Zack and Rex find a shallow part of Zerby Town Lake. They decide to make the shallow part even longer by dumping some gravel into the water. But when Bob the boat comes by he ends up stuck in the shallow water that wasn’t shallow before. Zack and Rex realize they need to fix the problem they created. Rex offers to lift Bob from one side of the shallow part to the other. Getting a ‘bucket ride’ is fun, but Rex would have to do it every time Bob needs to crow. They look around and Zack and Bob realize they just need to make the water shallow enough for trucks to drive through, but deep enough so Bob the boat doesn’t drive aground. - Zack and Lily are playing with a jump that always flips them upside-down. They realize a pile of leaves would be a great way to land upside-down. But it’s a very windy day in Zerby Town Forest and the leaves blow away. Putting sticks on the leaves makes them no fun to jump on. Zack and Lily look for an answer and realize digging a hole to put the leaves in will protect them from the wind so they will be there when they jump off and land upside-down.
S02:E05 - Flynn’s Runway - Esti-Mates - Water-Way
Zack joins Bob the Boat and Fran the Ferry as they explore a new bay of Zerby Town Lake. Flynn the float plane wants to join them but they need to find a spot for him to land. Zack picks out a spot on the ground, but Flynn needs water to land – he’s a float plane. The next spot they pick is too small and the spot after that has too many logs floating in it. Only after Zack, Bob and Fran clear the logs does Flynn have a large, open stretch of water to land. - While out exploring, Zack, Rex and Axle come across a low bridge. Axle can drive under fine but Zack gets stuck. They call the Construction Zerbies to help make the bridge tall enough not just for Zack, but for Rex as well. After this is done its fine for Zack, but Rex still can’t make it. They realize they also need to make space under the bridge wide enough for Rex as well. - Bob the Boat finds a new part of Zerby Town Lake to explore. But there are a lot of rocks just under the water that Bob can’t see and he keeps running up on them. Bob calls Zack and Fran the Ferry to help. They suggest that Bob could try to remember where all the rocks are, but there are too many to remember. Strut tries clearing some out, but it would take all day to clear them all. Finally they realize that if Bob marks the rocks with sticks then it makes it really easy to know where all the rocks are.
S02:E06 - Tightest Turn - Fran Aground - Switchback
Lily decides she wants to move her garage, but her new place is kind of in the way of a turn in the middle of Zerby Town. Zack and Strut help Lily figure out where the best place for her garage should be. They realize that they just need to move her garage a little, so that Zerbies can make the turn without hitting it. But finding the right spot is tricky. Lily decides to measure it so they don’t have to move her garage over and over. - Fran and Zack depart from a beach on Zerby Town Lake to pick up Rex, who has a giant log to take back to the other shore. But when Fran drives back with Zack, Rex and the log, she runs aground in the shallow water. Bob the Boat tries to push and Strut the Crane tries to pull, but Fran is stuck. They realize it’s because Fran is carrying more weight, so she is sitting lower in the water. Zack solves the problem by jumping into the water with his life-jacket and swimming to shore. - Zack and Axle find a road going down a steep hill. But Axle doesn’t like the road too much because it goes back and forth across the hill instead of straight down – which is much faster. They call Sandy the Bulldozer to change the road to one that goes straight down. But when Sandy is finished they find that getting up the road is too steep. They realize going across the hill makes it easier to climb, but they have to change directions several times before they get all the way to the top. In the end, they have built a switchback road to the top of the hill, the same kind of road they had before. But Axle doesn’t mind, now that he knows why the road looks like that.
S02:E07 - A Bridge for All Zerbies - Chase on the Water - in a Pinch
Zack and Axle find a bridge make out of sticks that crosses a small gap. The bridge, held up by two long sticks, can support Axle’s weight, but when Zack tries to cross, it breaks. They call Mika the mechanic to help them make a new bridge. They build one with 3 sticks which holds up Zack just fine, but when Mika tries to cross, it breaks under her heavier weight. Finally they build a bridge with 4 sticks that can hold up even Mika. But when Sandy the Bulldozer comes along, they realize they are going to have to build one more. - Chase is out exploring Zerby Town Forest when he comes across Bob the Boat and Piper the Float Plane watching a Lily pad, waiting to see a frog. Chase wants to wait with them but there’s nowhere for him to land. He tries landing on the water, but he’s doesn’t float. He tries landing on the shore, but he’s too far away. Then he tries landing on Bob, but Bob is too tippy for Chase to land on. Chase realizes he needs something light enough to fly with but something that will allow him to float. Once he finds some perfect sticks he can float as well as Flynn. - Zack, Lily and Rex are racing back to Zerby Town when Rex gets stuck under a fallen tree. Zack and Lily try to push him out but he’s truly stuck. Zack tries to pull while Lily pushes, but still no luck. They think that digging down would work, until they realize Rex is on rock, not dirt. Finally they realize that if Rex takes some air out of his tires, he will lower down enough to get out from under the log.
S02:E08 - Yoo Hoo - Sandscape - Wind Chime
S02:E09 - Sandy Tracks - One Lane or Two - Slippery Bridge
Sandy the Bulldozer joins Zack and Lily for a game of hide-and-seek. Zack and Lily are very surprised at how good Sandy is at hiding. But they soon discover Sandy’s tracks, which they hope to follow to her hiding spot. When the tracks go over a rock they figure out to search the other side of the rock to find them again. When the tracks go into tall grass they learn to look for grass that’s pushed over, and when they encounter tracks all over the place they search for other clues in order to find Sandy. - Everyone in Zerby Town decides to make an extra-long driveway. But with all the Zerbies’ driveways extra-long, Main Street gets squished down to only one narrow lane. Zack and Axle try to figure out the problem. Zack thinks all the Zerbies should take turns driving in one direction – then the other. This works until they realize someone always needs to be there to direct traffic. Zack volunteers, but he realizes he can’t spend all day directing traffic. They know shortening the driveways would make Main Street wider, but no one wants to shorten their new driveway. Axle realizes if they all move their garages back a bit, they can widen Main Street and still have long driveways. - Zack and Rex try to cross a mud pit on a log. But the log is wet from the rain and is too slippery for them to get across without falling in the mud. They try going slow, but that doesn’t work. Rex tries dropping sand on the log, but the sand he drops when he drives forward doesn’t get under his wheels and he falls off. When he tries dropping the sand by going backwards, he can’t see where he’s going and ends up in the mud again. When they go off looking for answers, Zack discovers that a second log placed against the first keeps them from falling off, no matter how slippery both logs are. With Strut’s help they place a log alongside the first and it keeps them from sliding sideways.
S02:E10 - Balancing Boats and Floats - Catching Some ZZZs - Tunnel Vision
Bob the Boat and Flynn the Float-Plane meet up with the Construction Zerbies, who, with the help of Fran the Ferry, are moving rocks across the lake. Bob and Flynn want to help move rocks. Bob has Strut place a rock on his front, but that just tips him forward. Flynn tries a rock on his back, but that just tips him backward. They both try their sides but that doesn’t seem to work either. Zack comes by and shows them how he has his rock right in the middle – where it balances. Bob and Flynn decide to try, try again, this time with rocks right in the middle, where they feel they balance the best. Sure enough, when the rocks are in the right spot Bob and Flynn can carry them across the lake with no problem. - Mika the Mechanic has had a busy day charging Zerbies. She uses her solar panels to charge a big battery pack, which she uses to charge any Zerby that needs it. But she needs to use the sun to charge the big battery back up again. She picks a sunny spot and falls asleep. When Zack and Rex find her, looking for a charge, Mika is in the Shade. She moves and waits again. When they return Mika is convinced that the shadow is following her. Rex and Zack look at the situation and realize there is a tree that is casting a shadow. The tree’s shadow is moving because the sun is moving across the sky. They find a nice open spot and Zack and Mika wait for a charge while the fully charged Rex drives in excited circles. - Strut the Crane and Mika the Mechanic have constructed a large tunnel. Zack and Lily can’t wait to try it. But when they do they realize it’s very dark in the tunnel and they can’t see. Mika has a light and she drives in to light it up, but Mika is too big to drive past when she’s in the tunnel too. She can’t leave the light either, since it has to be attached to her to work. But when Mika bumps into the side of the tunnel, some of the bark that makes the roof shifts and lets in sunlight. The Zerbies realize if they make little openings between the pieces of bark, they can use sunlight to light up the tunnel. Once this is done they play in the tunnel all day till it gets dark again. Once they realize the tunnel is dark because it’s night they decide to go home for the day – ready to play in the tunnel again tomorrow.
S02:E11 - Axle’s Hill - Zerby Bridge - Sand Puddle
Zack comes upon Axle who is struggling to drive up a hill with a large flag that he made. Axle’s tires aren’t very good at gripping the dirt. Zack’s tires are very grippy but he doesn’t have enough power to climb the hill with Axle’s big flag. They call the strongest Zerby they know, Rex. But Rex can’t climb the hill either, because he’s a heavy truck and even all his power isn’t enough to make it up the hill. Sandy the bulldozer comes by and the Zerbies learn that not only are Bulldozers super powerful, but the caterpillar treads grip the dirt even better than wheels. Sandy not only carries the flag to the top of the hill, but tows up Axle, Zack and Rex as well. - Zack and Rex are exploring when they come across a small stream. They decide to try to cross the stream, and they think back to a floating log bridge they took to get across the lake. They make a floating log bridge but when Zack gets on the bridge the current of the water pushes the bridge down the stream. They try, try again, this time to make a bridge that won’t move. A bridge of dirt! But when Rex pours in a load of dirt – it just gets washed away. Rex and Zack know there’s a way to solve the problem, but they have to but their hoods together to figure it out. Rex realizes that if they make a log bridge that is above the water, then it won’t get washed away and they can cross. No sooner have they made the bridge than Rex is in the water with his life-jacket, trying it out from below as well. - Zack and Rex are having fun playing on Zerby Town Ridge. But the one thing that the ridge doesn’t have is a big mud puddle. Zack and Rex decide to make one. They get some dirt and they get some water and put them together in a hole. But no matter how much they mix them together, it just doesn’t make mud. They decided to add more dirt. No good. They call Walter the wash truck over to add even more water. Still no mud. They are confused. They go off looking for answers and find out from Fill the front loader that they were using sand, not dirt. They realize sand and dirt are very different. Dirt and water make mud, but sand and water make… sand castles!
S02:E12 - Ferry Windy Day - the Big Top - Don’t Forget to Pack
Zack and Fran the Ferry are out for a ride around Zerby Town Lake on a very windy day. When the joy riding is over Fran tries to land at the docks. But it turns out, landing in the wind is difficult. When she approaches the first time, the wind blows her way off course, into the reeds at the side of the lake. She backs up and tries again, this time starting further to the side, she gets to the dock but blows past before Zack can get off and tie her up. The next time she comes in on an angle so she can stay still in the wind, but the angle is too hard for Zack to get off onto the dock. Finally, Zack realizes that they should use the wind to help them. Fran lines up with the dock in such a way that the wind blows her up against the dock instead of away from it. This allows Zack to get off and tie her up. - Axle is very proud of the big circle race track he and the other racing Zerbies have constructed. But when it looks like rain they go to Mika the Mechanic to help them come up with a way to cover their course. Mika covers the course with a large canvas, but there’s no room for the racers to race underneath. They try putting up a big stick in the middle, and that helps a bit, but there is still a lot of canvas covering the course. But when Mika pulls on the edge of the canvas to find out what Zack and Axle are talking about – they all realize that pulling the edges will make a perfect tent. Once they’ve pulled it and tied it down there’s lots of room underneath for racing, rain or shine. - Axle, Rex and Sandy the Bulldozer decide to build a jump. They usually have Fill the Front-loader’s help, but since Fill is busy helping Strut, they decide to do it without him. The problem is, when they build it the dirt that makes the jump seems to be too soft for Axle to drive on. They try changing the shape of the jump, but that doesn’t help. When they drive away looking for answers, Zack comes along the jump and drives over it several times. When they get back they see tire tracks on the jump and realize it works better than it did before. Fill finally joins them and they find out that he always packs down the dirt as the last step in making a jump. That’s why it worked better after Zack had driven on it.
S02:E13 - Chase Race - Dirty Zerby - Lighthouse
Zack and Axle have been racing around a course make of turns and jumps all day. But Zack can’t catch Axle, he’s the fastest Zerby in Zerby Town. Chase the helicopter comes by and Axle and Chase decide to race each other. The first time through the race Chase goes in a straight line, which Zack doesn’t think is fair. Chase agrees to race again, this time turning and following the race course. Chase wins the second race as well. But Zack thinks Chase should also have to go up and down like Axle does every time there is a jump. The third time through the race Axle wins, proving that he is, indeed, the fastest Zerby in Zerby Town. - Walter the wash truck is washing down the Zerbies who are all having fun playing in the mud. When he washes Lily, everywhere he washes keeps getting dirty and muddy again as he washes higher up. He goes to Mika the Mechanic and together they come up with a way to use more water to wash Zerbies. They try it on Zack but he just gets thrown upside-down by the water. They decide another answer must be out there. When they are looking Walter washes some dirt off Zack’s roof. That’s when he notices it’s easier to wash from the top down because the water goes down, taking the dirt with it. - Lily and Zack are driving along in the early morning when they find Bob the Boat beached up on the shore. Bob tells them that it was so dark last night that he couldn’t find his boat house. With the help of Mika the Mechanic they place a lighthouse on Zerby Town Pier so he can see his way at night. But when they come to test it out they find where you put light is very important. They aim it at the shore, but all Bob can see is the bush it’s hitting. They try again, this time aiming the light right at Bob, which doesn’t help either. They find that the lighthouse works perfect if it’s aiming right at Bob’s boathouse.
