The Case

Barrister, Sol Ridley, gets his first murder case and surprises his colleagues by appointing inexperienced pupil barrister, Julie Prior, as his junior. Sol is defending Tony Powell, who admits assisting his terminally ill partner, Saskia, to end her life.

Julie gets hold of last minute information enabling Sol to rubbish a key prosecution witness, but then Metzler plays his trump card, producing a new witness who gives damaging evidence against Tony.

Tony goes into the witness box shaken and distracted after an unsettling encounter outside court. Sol eventually manages to draw out a sympathetic account of events: a genuine love between Saskia and Tony, with Tony nursing Saskia through her illness.

As Metzler and Sol make their closing speeches, Dan is appalled to discover that Neil has been hiding the videotape. Jess and Dan decide to wait for the verdict: if Tony is found guilty they'll turn Neil in.
