Councilman Sock Miller finds himself in hot water with his girlfriend. He remarks on a TV panel that he is a bachelor because he hasn't found the right girl to meet his needs yet.

Sock and Mandy pose as bride and groom to help some friends get married in a secret proxy wedding. Plans get spoiled when the bride's grandfather shows up with a shotgun.

Sock tries to promote a romance between his Aunt Gus and Mayor Peoples, but everything goes haywire. Aunt Gus in her glitzy outfit has a disastrous effect on a bigwig politician.

Councilman Sock runs for mayor, and almost wins! Mandy then tries to convince her friend that Sock should become the Mayor's assistant.

Everyone thinks Sock is ready to quit bachelorhood. Sock thinks Aunt Gus has finally found the man of her dreams and he suspects that the suitor is none other than Mayor Peoples.

Sock wants to put his city on the map by staging a centennial pageant to honor an ancestor of a prominent congressman. Suprisingly, the mayor’s relatives were not frontier heroes.

Sock tries to help an artist friend who needs money. He invites the mayor and Mandy to a pool party to persuade them to commission a mural by his friend to decorate a city school.

Sock and Mandy leave for a secret honeymoon in Palm Springs and try to throw the mayor and Rollo off the scent by staging a fight. What ensues are plenty of hilarious mix-ups.

Sock takes a job from the district attorney in an effort to trap a thief who has been robbing the city's parking meters. Rollo mistakenly thinks Sock is stealing the nickels.
