Ghost Ships

Marrs Island, Nova Scotia was the site of one of the worst civilian maritime disasters in history. When the SS Atlantic slammed into the rocks, more than 550 lives were lost.

For more than 200 years, tales of a Phantom Ship have surrounded the waters of Pictou, Nova Scotia—a mysterious ship engulfed in flames that suddenly vanishes into the night.

On December 6, 1917, two ships collided in Halifax Harbour, resulting in the largest man-made, non-nuclear explosion in history! It was a shipwreck that destroyed a whole city.

For decades, residents of Portuguese Cove, Nova Scotia have reported unexploded ordinance washing up on their shores. Most believe it’s from a shipwreck called the Clare Lilley.
