Investor Bat Masterson, in partnership with mine owner Augustus Ulbrecht, reaps the wages of mismanagement. Ulbrecht, indifferent to the safety of the men, forces them to work despite reports that the diggings are about to cave in. Though Bat wants no part of the blame, he doesn't walk out on his responsibility.
