Politics, the press and deeply held values collide in this intelligent romantic comedy when Andrew Shepherd falls in love with beautiful environmental lobbyist Sydney Wade--just before he runs for reelection as The American President. President Shepherd must weigh the political repercussions of his romance with Wade as his cynical opponent, Senator Bob Rumson, attempts to slander Shepherd as a radical and use "family values" rhetoric to smear the widower incumbent President.
