S05:É03 - S05:E03 - Birthday Blues

It’s Alex’s (Erica Durance) birthday, but with everything going on her life, having a happy birthday isn’t a high priority. Birthdays have never been easy for Alex but she’ll have to put that behind her when she makes a promise to Aisha (Jaeda Leblanc), a young girl whose own birthday gets derailed by her father’s breakout of sickle cell crisis. That promise proves harder to keep, and Alex will have to pull out all of the stops to make a young girl’s birthday wish come true. Wanting to cheer her friend up, Maggie (Julia Taylor Ross) takes it on herself to organize a surprise party for Alex. Party planning aside, Maggie tries her hand at online dating, only to find that true love isn’t as simple as swiping right when she runs into Spencer Walsh (Tim Rozon) again later that night at the party. Meanwhile, Charlie (Michael Shanks) treats Garth (Craig Henderson), a paranormal skeptic who’s been impaled by a piece of wood after falling through the floor of a haunted house. As they debate the existence of the supernatural, Charlie realizes the man has a haunting of his own. And Cassie (Kim Shaw) confronts her inner fear of infectious diseases as two would-be dogooders come back from their humanitarian mission infested with every parasite and tropical disease known to man.
