The Repair Shop
Saison 5 Épisode 42 - Jamaican Pump Organ, WW1 Crib, Naval Rigging Set
Télé-réalité · Documentaire · Histoire
Today in the Repair Shop, Jay Blades and the team bring four treasured family heirlooms, and the memories they hold, back to life.First into the barn are sisters Angie Jackson and Carmen Henry from Birmingham. They are hoping organ-restorer David Burville can revive their late mother's pride and joy, a portable pump organ. The organ accompanied their parents as they journeyed from Jamaica to begin a new life in the UK, along with many other West Indians, during the Windrush era. Angie and Carmen's family would come together to sing around the organ, while their mother played hymns. However the organ has been silent for over 40 years and the sisters yearn to hear it once more. David takes a deep breath and opens up the wooden casing to see what problems lurk inside. He discovers a multitude of issues and few heart-warming surprises as he skilfully brings it back to full voice.Next to arrive are two more sisters hoping to save a beloved piece of family furniture, Wendy McKee and Sue Willie from Hull and furniture Restorer Will Kirk is there to welcome them. The sisters have brought a baby crib, made by their grandfather from wood salvaged from a bomb damaged church during the war. The crib has held the precious infants of their family from 1914 to present day. However it's looking worse for wear and could do with some serious tlc. Will creates new pieces to replace the many missing sections, gives it a new lick of paint and returns it ready for the next generation of this family to use. Finally leather conservator Susie welcomes Nick McCullen with a cherished keepsake that belonged to his father. The naval rigging tools enveloped in a leather casing were indispensable to his Seaman father but years at sea, followed by decades hanging in a garage have rendered it almost beyond repair. Susie and Silversmith Brenton join forces on this rescue mission and return the kit transformed to an overcome Nick.
