Wild Wonderful Off-Grid
S01:E13 - Moving On
S01:É01 - S01:E01 - We Are in Over Our Heads: A-Frame Cabin Addition
Josh and Erin break ground on an addition that will more than double their off-grid A-frame cabin. The first days of work make the scale of what they have taken on very clear.
S01:É02 - S01:E02 - We Can Finally Tell You!
Josh and Erin sit down inside the A-frame with news they have been holding onto. Saying it out loud reshapes what the year ahead looks like.
S01:É03 - S01:E03 - Pumping Concrete Into Our Block Walls: A-Frame Cabin Addition
The block walls are standing but hollow, and every core has to be filled. Josh and Erin bring a concrete pump to a remote site for a pour that cannot be paused.
S01:É04 - S01:E04 - Steel for the Safe Room & Christmas Surprise
Steel arrives for the safe room and two people have to work out how to move and place it alone. The heaviest material handling of the build lands at the holidays.
S01:É05 - S01:E05 - Lifting Steel Beams on Top of Safe Room Walls: A-Frame Cabin Addition
With the walls poured and cured, steel beams go up on top of them. Serious weight at height on uneven off-grid ground leaves almost no room to improvise.
S01:É06 - S01:E06 - Installing Whole House Back Up Power!
Off-grid there is no utility to fall back on when the solar array cannot keep up. Josh and Erin install a whole house backup power system, wiring and switchover included.
S01:É07 - S01:E07 - Arctic Blast: Severe Weather Update Off-Grid
An arctic blast settles over the property and the build gives way to keeping everything alive. Water, heat, stored power and the animals all need attention at once.
S01:É08 - S01:E08 - Finally! What Took So Long
Something the build has been waiting weeks on finally lands on site. Josh and Erin walk through what held it up, and what it means now that work can move again.
S01:É09 - S01:E09 - We're Going Higher! Posts for Cabin Ridge Beam
The addition starts climbing as Josh and Erin set the posts that will carry the ridge beam. Any error here gets multiplied by everything built on top of it.
S01:É10 - S01:E10 - The Risk Might Not Be Worth It
Framing carries on in the rain with the original A-frame looking on. Josh and Erin weigh whether pushing ahead in these conditions is worth what it could cost.
S01:É11 - S01:E11 - Unexpected: The Build Comes to a Stop
Work on the addition stops unexpectedly. Josh and Erin sit down inside the A-frame to explain what has happened, and what it means for a build finally gathering pace.
S01:É12 - S01:E12 - Ridge Beam Installation: 35 Foot Peak of Our A-Frame Cabin Build
Josh and Erin install the ridge beam at the 35 foot peak, the highest lift of the project. The beam sets the line of the whole roof, so it has to land exactly right.
S01:É13 - S01:E13 - Moving On
A reflective stretch on the build. With the ridge beam set and the roof still ahead, Josh takes stock of where the addition stands and what has to happen next.
S01:É14 - S01:E14 - Framing the Roof: A-Frame Cabin Addition Build
With the ridge beam set, roof framing begins and the addition finally reads as a building. Steep A-frame geometry makes every cut less forgiving than standard framing.
S01:É15 - S01:E15 - 125 Year Old Building Renovated in 1 Year Start to Finish: Opening Day
Away from the cabin, Josh and Erin reach opening day on a 125 year old building they spent a year restoring for their own business. This one came with a hard deadline.
S01:É16 - S01:E16 - Back to the Build: Framing the Loft
Back at the cabin, Josh and Erin frame the loft that will turn the tall volume under the A-frame roof into living space. Material goes up before it can be cut.
S01:É17 - S01:E17 - Cabin Gets a Massive Addition!
The new structure and the original A-frame are joined into one building. The junction has to carry load and shed water, and the old cabin was never built to that.
S01:É18 - S01:E18 - Steel, Wood & Concrete: Remote Off-Grid Cabin Build
Steel, wood, and concrete have to work together in one structure, and each loads and weathers differently.
S01:É19 - S01:E19 - Our 13x28 Concrete Safe Room Ceiling
The safe room needs a concrete ceiling. Josh and Erin build formwork for the 13 by 28 foot slab that has to hold the weight until the concrete can carry itself.
S01:É20 - S01:E20 - Ready for Concrete, New Rafters & Safe Room Rebar Welding
Concrete gets its strength from what is buried inside it. Josh and Erin weld and tie rebar for the safe room ceiling and set new rafters while the slab is still open.
