Thirty years after Scream first asked audiences if they liked scary movies, the franchise is still finding new ways to keep horror fans talking and spooky season feels like a particularly good excuse to revisit one of its more unexpected chapters. Scream: The TV Series trades Woodsboro for Lakewood, where a viral cyberbullying incident is followed by a brutal murder that puts a group of teenagers in the middle of a mystery connected to the town's dark past. Suddenly high school drama has a body count, everyone's hiding something, and your phone notifications deserve significantly more suspicion.
The series takes the self-aware slasher DNA fans know from Scream and stretches the mystery across episodes, giving the friendships, romances, secrets, suspects, and red herrings plenty of time to get messier between kills. Three seasons are streaming free on Tubi, so Lakewood has more than enough secrets to keep you guessing.
That slasher streak runs straight through Tubi’s Slasher Madness collection, where masked killers and genre favorites keep the body count climbing. Terror on Tubi widens the nightmare from there with cult favorites, supernatural scares, and plenty more reasons staying home was probably the correct decision.
Fitzgerald gives Emma the vulnerability of someone whose ordinary teenage life gets violently rewritten without immediately turning her into an indestructible Final Girl™. As Lakewood becomes more dangerous, Fitzgerald lets that fear sharpen into resolve, making Emma's survival instinct feel earned. She keeps enough vulnerability underneath it all to give the series someone worth rooting for when running away would honestly be the most reasonable option.
Taylor-Klaus plays Audrey with a guarded confidence that makes it clear she isn't particularly interested in fitting into Lakewood's social hierarchy. There's vulnerability underneath that armor, and Taylor-Klaus knows exactly when to let it surface without softening the character completely. That mix of toughness and uncertainty makes Audrey especially compelling in a show where trusting people is rarely a winning strategy.
Every horror story needs somebody who realizes they're basically living in a horror story. Karna makes Noah, Lakewood's resident horror obsessive, funny, and self-aware without reducing him to the guy who explains slasher trivia. His enthusiasm gives the character an infectious energy.
Brooke looks like she walked directly out of the popular-girl section of the teen-horror handbook, but Young makes sure she doesn't stay there. Young pairs her biting confidence with glimpses of the insecurity underneath, gradually turning what could've been a familiar archetype into someone much harder to categorize. In Scream, surviving the stereotype might be almost as important as surviving the killer.
Middendorf brings a more subtle tension to Maggie, balancing her instinct to protect Emma with the weight of a past that keeps pushing into the present. Her restrained performance makes Maggie particularly effective because she never needs to announce that she knows more than she's saying. In a murder mystery, that kind of silence tends to get our attention.
