Weekend Picks: Buzzkill Was Just the Beginning for 5 Slashers on Tubi

The Sigma party may be over, but movie night still has a body count. Keep the slasher marathon going free on Tubi.

One slasher rarely stays one slasher.

You finish Buzzkill, congratulate yourself on surviving the Sigma party from the safety of your couch, and suddenly the question appears: one more? It's the horror-movie equivalent of saying you'll watch one episode before bed. We all know where this is going.

Slashers are dangerously good at creating that momentum. You already know the basic agreement: somebody is in danger, somebody is making a terrible decision, and you're positive you would've handled the situation better. Then the movie starts changing the variables and suddenly you're invested all over again. Half the fun is knowing the rules well enough to anticipate what comes next. The other half is watching a movie find a new reason you were completely wrong.

This week's Weekend Picks keeps the body count moving after Buzzkill with five more slashers on Tubi. Already craving more Greek-life horror? Our sorority-slasher survival guide has that particular nightmare covered. Here, we're leaving the sorority house behind to see what happens when the slasher rules travel somewhere else. Terror on Tubi can handle the rest of the horror marathon once five more somehow stops being enough.

Nora's extremely questionable investigation strategy deserves a debrief once you've seen where it leads. Enter our spoiler-free Buzzkill review which is ready for anyone who's already watched. Everybody else, bookmark that one until later.

The killer isn't clocking out yet. Apparently neither are we.

You Might Be the Killer

For anyone who finished Buzzkill thinking the person solving the mystery should have an even more inconvenient relationship with the evidence, excellent news (for us, not Sam).

Waking up surrounded by bodies gives camp counselor Sam several urgent questions in You Might Be the Killer. Fran Kranz has one fairly significant problem as Sam: the evidence keeps suggesting he may know more about the murders than he remembers. Alyson Hannigan becomes his long-distance horror consultant, using slasher logic to help him reconstruct exactly what happened.

Knowing the rules becomes part of the joke here. Instead of screaming at characters for not understanding what kind of movie they're in, Chuck is basically doing that professionally. Buzzkill gives us Drunk Nora leaving clues for Sober Nora; this gives us a potential Final Guy who may need to add himself to the suspect board. Mystery-solving privileges are under review.

Hatchet

Maybe the mystery portion of the evening has exhausted you. Fine. Here's Victor Crowley.

New Orleans swamp tourism receives a fairly devastating review in Hatchet once the legend of Victor Crowley starts looking very capable of holding a weapon. Kane Hodder steps behind the monster while a group of tourists discovers that being stranded in a swamp is already inconvenient before somebody starts turning the excursion into a massacre.

Restraint was clearly not invited on this tour. Practical gore gets excessive, the horror knowingly embraces old-school slasher energy, and the kills understand that anyone pressing play on a movie called Hatchet probably knows what they're ordering.

Buzzkill got the party started. Victor brought cleanup complications.

Haunt

Paying somebody to scare you sounds reasonable until they stop respecting the agreed-upon parameters.

Halloween entertainment is the only thing Harper and her friends are looking for when they enter the extreme attraction at the center of Haunt. Masked performers, increasingly nasty challenges, and a building designed to keep everyone disoriented initially seem like part of the experience. Then leaving becomes a problem.

Every early scare comes with plausible deniability because fear is literally what everyone paid for. A masked stranger following you through a dark hallway? Expected. The door suddenly locking behind you? Immersive! The creeping realization that nobody is breaking character because this may no longer be an act? Refund requested.

No One Will Hear You Scream

The World Cup is happening. Everybody is distracted. A masked killer appreciates the scheduling.

Soccer fever has practically taken over 1990 when Micaela's summer begins going somewhere much darker in No One Will Hear You Scream. Her mixtape begins connecting her to a series of murders, turning what should've been another summer surrounded by friends into a much more personal investigation once the clues suggest the violence isn't random.

Spain and the period setting immediately move the story away from the suburban houses, camps, and college parties slashers love frequenting. More importantly for our post-Buzzkill marathon, Micaela isn't simply waiting to see whether the killer reaches her. There's a connection to untangle, information to piece together, and an answer hiding somewhere inside what she already has. Another heroine solving her own slasher mystery? Nora would understand.

Lowlifes

We're going to be extremely annoying about this one. Go in blind.

One family road trip and an extremely unfortunate overnight stop are about all we're willing to reveal about Tubi Original Lowlifes. Anything more starts interfering with the reason we're recommending it.

Lowlifes establishes what you think you're getting and then starts testing how much confidence you placed in those assumptions. If Buzzkill works because it understands slasher conventions well enough to have fun rearranging them, Lowlifes makes recognizing those conventions potentially useful and potentially dangerous. Our Lowlifes spotlight is waiting once curiosity wins, but we'd still recommend pressing play first.

You've already survived one slasher this weekend. Five more seems completely reasonable.
