Masked killers picked an isolated house, a dysfunctional family, and what looked like an easy target. The home-invasion horror movie streaming on Tubi would like to show them why they really should’ve done more research.
Watch NowFamily dinner is already dangerous territory. Somebody brings up money. Old sibling grudges get reheated. One comment lands wrong and suddenly the mashed potatoes are witnessing generational conflict. You’re Next decides that isn't enough tension.
Director Adam Wingard gathers the wealthy Davison family at an isolated country estate for a wedding-anniversary celebration that barely makes it through dinner before crossbow bolts start coming through the windows. Masked attackers surround the house. Phones aren't particularly useful. Panic spreads quickly. And what looked like a deeply uncomfortable family reunion becomes a fight to survive the night. Except the people outside made one fairly significant mistake: Erin.
Sharni Vinson enters the movie as Crispian's girlfriend and gradually becomes the person everyone should probably start listening to. You’re Next gets a lot of mileage out of that reversal, taking the familiar helpless-victims-versus-home-invaders setup and letting the power dynamic become considerably less predictable once Erin starts responding to the threat. No cape. No dramatic transformation sequence. Just the increasingly satisfying realization that somebody at this dinner came unusually prepared for a very bad evening.
Erin has exactly the kind of survival instinct celebrated inside Terror on Tubi's Final Girl Energy collection, where getting cornered rarely means staying cornered for long. With Wingard back in the horror conversation thanks to Onslaught, spooky season has handed us a particularly good excuse to revisit one of the movies that helped establish his gleefully nasty genre voice.
The Cast
Sharni Vinson
Vinson makes Erin's evolution the most satisfying part of You’re Next because she doesn't suddenly flip a switch and become an exaggerated action hero. There's a steadiness to her performance even as everybody else starts unraveling, with Vinson using Erin's focus, physicality, and quick decision-making to gradually reveal just how differently she processes danger. She can still register fear without letting it consume the character, which makes Erin feel capable rather than invincible.
AJ Bowen
Bowen plays Crispian as the softer, less confrontational member of a family already primed for conflict. His restraint makes him a natural buffer between Erin and his siblings, but once the attack begins, that uneasiness shifts into panic and vulnerability, giving Bowen room to show how quickly familiar family roles become useless when the danger stops being theoretical.
Joe Swanberg
Swanberg gives Drake abrasive older-brother energy from the moment family tensions start bubbling up. He's defensive, competitive, and reliably capable of making an already uncomfortable situation worse, which keeps Drake's personality intact even after survival becomes everyone's much bigger concern.
